Each year, as school begins, there are thousands of military kids who are walking the halls of their new school for the very first time. This year, for the second year in a row, Starbucks and Blue Star Families partnered to make transitions like these a little easier for military kids by getting them school supplies to generate some excitement about their first day and ease some “new kid” jitters!
Port Hueneme, CA: This Military Family Store may have just moved the entire store to a new location, but that didn’t stop them from participating in this great project! Collections were taken through the end of August and our Blue Star Families volunteers will take them to support a local military-impacted school in the community. This is the first project for this new area of growth in our partnership and we couldn’t be more thrilled about their dedicated participation.
Luke AFB, AZ: The Luke AFB Blue Star Families team and the Litchfield Park Military Family Store already have such an amazing partnership (they have six community engagement opportunities planned just in August and September), it was no surprise that they jumped at this opportunity to support their local military kids. While handing out the supplies the store had collected, they also offered the opportunity for kids to make their very own bookmark! What a great way to start the school year for these children, many of whom may have been a bit anxious in their new surroundings.
Emerald Coast, FL: The military families in the Florida panhandle continue to be wowed by the opportunities provided through the great partnership between their two amazing military family stores and our local rockstar volunteers, Hang Owen and her team. And the Back to School Supply Drive was no exception. It may have been raining the day they were scheduled to pass out school supplies to military kids, but that didn’t stop them- they even had families lining up two hours before the distribution event started! Hats off to our Florida teams who come out rain or shine and are dedicated to putting smiles on the faces of military kids- and their parents!
Thanks, Starbucks, for your continued support as we work together to create communities where military families thrive.
